Disney re-used footage and animation cliches

I'm sure all us animation nuts have seen the side-by-side Disney cells but here are a lot of the sequences side by side. Some are just re-used cliches but others are clearly re-used footage.

Purists may balk but remember commercial animation needs to be great and efficient. Don't work hard; work smart!

I think this is really cool. I don't think there's anything wrong with stealing from yourself.
I think most of these scenes were Woolie reithermans, and he was always trying to rework his shots.
I think it's cool AND a great way to cut costs.

yeah, it works perfectly for the scenes shown that aren't specifically important to the character and are more for the mood and actions necessary to move forward the plot.

actually have seen this before, there nothing wrong with reusing what already works especially if it saves time.

Bingo. The more time you save on work you've done before, the more time you have to make the new things awesome!

On one hand, I think it's cool that their quality is so good that they can use it multiple times and it still holds up. We don't complain when we see the same animation sequence applied to a group of soldiers in shooter games.

But on the other hand, I feel cheated. Like they pulled the veil over my childhood eyes. Those were some of my favorites. I thought that every sequence and cel was painted new in these epic classics. I'm gonna find my old copy of Jungle Book and cry on it.

Kev, just because the motions are the same, the cleanup artists and cel painters still had to put in the time to make these, so the cels and sequences are still entirely unique. It just saved the time of the animators to focus on other scenes, and to put the extra time in the ones that needed it most.
